To deal with the ever-increasing menace of cyber crime, IT ACT, 2000 came into being. Since implementation, the law has successfully dealt with cyber crimes relating to net transactions, credit card fraud etc. To track down the culprits, the Act uses the processed image or the progress chart of intricate transactions digitally.

Companies can now involve in e-commerce, using the legal infrastructure of the Act.
The Act gave legal validity and sanction to digital signatures.
The Act enables corporate entities to become Certifying Authorities for issuing Digital Signatures
Certificates.
The Act enables Government to issue notification on the web, accelerating e-governance.
With this Act, the companies can now file forms, applications or any documents with any office,
authority, body or agency controlled by appropriate Government in electronic form.
The Act also addresses security issues, pertinent to electronic transactions. It has a legal
definition of secure digital signatures that is required to pass any security procedure stipulated by
the Govt.
The Act enables the companies to have a statutory remedy for anyone breaking into their
computer systems or networks and damaging or copying data. The Act provides remedy in the
form of monetary benefits, not exceeding Rs.1crore.
